In our latest episode of the “Michael Meier Show for Real Estate Rockstars,” our special guest was Jesse Peters — a.k.a Mr. Social Savvy — who is a prime example of a real estate professional who’s created a brand for themselves through the power of social media.
Jesse is a real estate agent who lives and works in Winnipeg, Canada, an area not many can point out on a map. Although he’s only been in the industry for just about five years, Jesse knew that he would eventually grow a large network if he shared valuable content on platforms like Facebook in a way that also expresses his personality. By building an identity people could connect with, he was able to not only achieve a larger following but also start to generate business from his use of social media and newfound clientele.
Social Media = Growth
Creating a brand identity on social media generates tremendous opportunity for the success of your business because you can essentially go from being a nobody to being a celebrity overnight. At MEIER Real Estate, we feel it’s so important to help our agents identify what it is they do best so that they can capitalize on that when sharing content with consumers on social websites like Facebook and Snapchat.
So how do you build your brand to achieve a success similar to Jesse’s? It’s all in the content and how you make it unique to express your own persona. There’s a trial-and-error period where you’ll test out what works for you and what doesn’t — i.e., how often you should post, what kind of content you should post, how you balance your business content with your personal content, what platforms fit your needs and more.
The point is to not be discouraged. It can take a while to figure out your brand identity. Stay true to yourself and continue to share articles and post videos in order to build your image as well as your credibility. Brand recognition is key and eventually, if you stick with it, you’ll find what works best for you to continue to grow your business using social media.
#DontBeABot
In an era where more and more real estate professionals are fearful of being replaced by technology, or “bots,” it’s extremely important to differentiate yourself from other agents in the industry by bringing out your own personality, experiences and insight. If everyone shared the same content, the same expressions, the same stories, it’s no wonder bots are trying to mimic that character.
While some aspects of the industry can definitely benefit consumers by streamlining certain mundane tasks through technology (transaction paperwork, for example), we found in our experience that consumers still want that human connection and expertise. Buying a home is an emotional process, and clients want to experience genuine interactions to gain real insight on how to handle the stressful transition of moving.
It’s important to remember that there are three things that cannot be replaced by technology, and in order to stay relevant, you must have exceptional qualities for each of them. The three things to keep you from being a bot are:
- Personality
- Insight
- Connection
